West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder admitted that the defeat against Scotland to be eliminated from the race to the World Cup in India is the “lowest point” in his career so far. The two-time Champions West Indies will not feature in the ODI World Cup for the first time in 48 years, since the launch of the marquee event back in 1975.

West Indies suffered a shocking defeat by seven wickets to Scotland in a Super Six match of the qualifier, to crash out of the race to qualify for the upcoming 50-over World Cup in India. The Men in Maroon lost a close game against the Netherlands in the Super Over before losing to the home team Zimbabwe.

Speaking to the media after the heartbreaking loss against Scotland, Jason Holder believes that West Indies cricket can turn around things as they have young talents in the team, who can contribute to the team in the future and said that it is time to help the youngsters to improve to play at the highest level, as they can hope for some good results in a couple of years.

“I don’t think all is lost. There’s a lot of young guys in the group who can definitely develop and turn things around for West Indies cricket, We’ve got a young crop of players and we’ve got to put some support around them”.

“We have to look at the levels below and improve them so that when guys get here, they have a good foundation. It’s an area we need to pay some special attention to. It’s not a quick fix.
“It’s something we need to spend time on. Development is the most important thing. Hopefully, in the next couple of years, we can see the fruits of that crop,” Jason Holder said.
Many Caribbean cricketers have prioritized T20 cricket over playing for the West Indies team in recent years due to the emergence of T20 leagues around the globe. West Indies players Andre Russell and Sunil Narine have been part of the Kolkata Knight Riders setup in the IPL, MLC, ILT20, and CPL, as they are not part of the West Indies in the last few years in International cricket.

We Want To Go Forward As A Group And Make It Happen – Jason Holder

Jason Holder believes that everyone in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) needs to work together to bring in changes for the overall development of the country going forward and added that it was disappointing not being able to qualify world cup following the qualifier exit in the 2022 T20 World Cup, after being able to represent the country in the previous World Cup.

“We’ve all got to do it. It’s not an individual thing, it’s not a territorial thing, we’ve got to come together as a region and think about how we want to go forward as a group and make it happen.

“It’s disappointing, especially after last year’s effort in the T20 (World Cup). I’ve had the luxury of playing in two fifty-over World Cups before and some T20 World Cups. There are special occasions so this one will hurt as the one last year did,” Jason Holder added.
West Indies team has struggled in recent years, as they could not perform well in the bilateral series and ICC events, as the two-time T20 champions failed to qualify for the Super 12 of the 2022 T20 World Cup and the team is currently playing ODI World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.
