Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has thrown support behind young speedster Navdeep Saini, who starred with the ball on his T20I debut against Windies in Florida on August 3. Thus, Gambhir, who is vocal about Saini, has taken a dig at Bishan Singh Bedi apart from erstwhile DDCA chief selector Chetan Chauhan.
The 26-year-old Haryana-based Saini has snared three wickets while conceding 17 runs off his 24 deliveries. Also, he has sent down a maiden over in which he got the prized scalp of Kieron Pollard, who was the top-scorer of Windies in the first T20I.
Saini had further bagged Man of the Match award after India chased down the target of 96 in 17.2 overs with Washington Sundar finishing things off in style with a maximum.
Gambhir and Bedis had a strained relationship when it comes to the Delhi cricket. Bedi had questioned Saini’s selection ahead of young guns debut in the first-class leg back in 2013.
Also, Bedi had written to the then DDCA president Sneh Bansal while expressing disapproval regarding Saini’s introduction in Delhi team some six years ago.
Gambhir hasn’t sobered yet: Bedi
Which eventually saw Gambhir blasting Bedi after Saini has proved his mettle with the ball against the Caribbean team.
In response, to scathing attack, Bedi maintained that he wouldn’t stoop low on facing like Gambhir. However, former Team India skipper has praised Saini for his outstanding show with the ball.
Also, Kohli had effusively praised Saini for his dream debut with former skipper Bedi deciding against conquering Gambhir.
In the past, it has been visible that the duo had differences regarding various issues.
Bedi responds to Gambhir:
While speaking to PTI, Bedi maintained that he would not like to react on comments from Gambhir which latter made on his official handle. Also, he has cleared the air by saying he did not say anything wrong about Saini.
“I don’t believe that I have to stoop to conquer like Gautam Gambhir. I would rather not react to his comments on twitter. I have never said a negative thing about Navdeep Saini. Also I believe if someone has made it, it’s his credit not any Tom, Dick or Harry’s,” Bedi told PTI.
Bedi stated that Gambhir hadn’t shown any signs of being clear-headed before becoming the Member of Parliament from East Delhi
“Who am I? I wasn’t in any position of DDCA. I see that he (Gambhir) hasn’t sobered even after becoming a Member of Parliament,” Bedi said on Gambhir.
In conclusion, Bed remarked that Saini has been outstanding. However, he added that they should wait as he is yet new to the arena of the top-flight cricket.
“The kid is outstanding. But I have only seen him on TV. Also, he has just played one game for India. We should wait for some more time,” Bedi concluded.
The 72-year-old Bedi has played 67 Tests and 10 ODIs between 1966 and 1979.
Here is what, Gambhir tweeted after Saini’s spectacular show on his T20I debut:
