India’s tour of the West Indies may have reduced the number of stars in the Caribbean Premier League but the games have managed to produce the same level of excitement throughout the season.

In the 28th game of the 2016 edition of West Indies’ domestic T20 version, the Guyana Amazon Warriors managed to sneak a 6-wicket victory with just 3 balls remaining in the last over of the second innings to take two points away from the Barbados Tridents who find themselves languishing in the 5th place.

Having won the toss and chosen to bat, the Tridents managed to set a decent target of 159 in the 20 overs for the Warriors to chase but were not able to hold their nerve at the end to lose their way out of the game.

Ahmed Shehzad failed to take on the Warriors’ bowlers and was dismissed cheaply but steady innings from S Taylor, Shoaib Malik, and skipper Keiron Pollard made sure that the total went past the 150 mark after a sedate start to the innings.

David Wiese scored a quick fire 13 to add some spice to the last few overs but all in all the Tridents would have been disappointed to have not taken advantage on a decent batting surface having taken the first advantage of it.

They started their defense in the best possible manner with a wicket of the first ball in the chase.

Dwayne Smith was cleaned up with an incoming delivery from R Reifer who then went on to leak 10 runs in an eventful first over.

However, it all started to fall apart after that as Ravi Rampaul was taken for 17 runs in the next over reducing the pressure on the chasing side drastically.

The Warriors lost N Maddison in the 6th over but in came J Mohammed who stuck it out alongside C Lynn to take his side closer to victory.

The duo put on 69 runs in less than 10 overs leaving around 52 runs needed off the last 6 overs.

However, Chris Lynn, after he got his fifty, and A Bramble lost their wickets in just 8 balls as the required run rate started to crop up to above the 10-run per over mark.

J Mohammed, who was settled at the crease was joined by C Barnwell who had some lusty blows up his sleeve at crucial times as the duo managed to milk a boundary every over till the last over, all the while picking every single that was on offer.

The Warriors needed 16 of the last two overs and managed to reach their target with 3 balls to spare scoring 2 sixes in those 9 balls.

It was a superb chase by the Warriors on the night who now took a leap over the Jamaica Tallawahs to regain their top spot in the points table.

J Mohammed was named the man of the match for his match-winning innings of 57 of just 41 balls.
