Cricket Australia’s lynchpin James Sutherland suggests that he won’t put down his papers over the ball-tampering row which eclipsed the game of cricket recently in South Africa.
The Chairman of CA, David Peever, has confirmed that Sutherland’s position is not under threat even though an independent root and branch review is scheduled to take place pertaining to organisation’s culture.
Moreover, the former Test opener Rick McCosker is slated to head the independent review. The body would pen down the standards of behaviour and expectations of the Australian team.
However, irrespective of the outcome of the review, Sutherland’s position is safe with the full support of the CA board, according to wordings from Peever.
In fact, Peever went ahead and claimed that Sutherland did an outstanding job in handling the infamous ‘Sandpaper Gate’. That said, the review committee does not wish to engage in a witch hunt.
“I think we’re all going to come under the microscope in terms of what is occurring back in the organisation that might have contributed to this,” David Peever commented.
James Sutherland will be remembered as one of the best servants of cricket in Aus: Peever
“But I can tell you this, circumstances like this are not the time for witch-hunts. I know people in these circumstances call for everybody to be sacked,” continued Peever.
“Clearly, that isn’t going to solve any problems. What we must do now is work on the issues that we have and we take responsibility for fixing them and making them better,” he said.
Also, apart from Sutherland, even Peever has no intention of stepping down from his coveted position on the board.
In addition, McCosker is bound to join a panel for the player-driven review. This would include two ex-players and a couple of current ones.
“I know that when the time comes for James to make a decision about what he wants to do in regards to his role in Cricket Australia, he will be remembered as one of the best servants of cricket in this country,” concluded David Peever.
