Jason Roy ,in an exclusive interview with reporters at the end of England’s second one-day international against Pakistan, said that he was quite intimidated by the big, towering height Mohammad Irfan possesses and went on to term him as a giant owing to his stature. He also mentioned that the reason he was bowled by Irfan in the 1st game was that he was not able to pick the release point as a result of which he wasn’t able to pick up the length of the delivery bowled to him ,as a result of which his off-stump was pegged back.
Roy, however made amends in the very next game making a valuable half-century and helping his side to win and square the series at 1-1.He believed that the key to play any bowler, irrespective of his physique oe action was to watch the ball as closely out of the hand as possible.
He further said that the presence of Chris Tremlett in the same county as his, who is also quite tall helped him to tighten his game against Irfan and to ride the steep bounce that he so often extracts due to his height and play his deliveries with soft hands and a highly focused eye on the ball.
Roy was also all praise for his opening partner Hales and believed that a test debut for the latter is pretty much just around the corner.
