Want to be a professional cricketer?
While it is the year of ICC T20 World Cup, the 26-year-old Indian right-arm pacer Jasprit Bumrah claimed that the Indian men’s team was really preparing well for this tournament before the novel COVID-19 or coronavirus pandemic.
According to the FTP schedule, Australia has the responsibility to organise both the women’s and men’s T20 World Cup in this year. The country successfully organised the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 in last February-March in front of the record-breaking crowds.
The country was expecting a similar kind of success in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 which has been scheduled between 18th October and 15th November 2020. But the coronavirus pandemic, which started to explode globally just after the women’s T20 World Cup, has opened up the doubtful fate of the upcoming men’s tournament.
We would always want to believe that we can win the tournament: Jasprit Bumrah about the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020
Jasprit Bumrah recently clarified that the Indian men’s team was seriously preparing for the forthcoming men’s T20 World Cup before the pandemic started to dominate the world. Bumrah claimed that they always believed their success in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020. Apart from targeting on the pre-World Cup T20I schedule, the Indian players were also serious about the IPL 2020, which has also been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
On the ICC’s video series Inside Out interviews, Bumrah told Ian Bishop and Shaun Pollock, “We were really preparing well for it. We had a lot of T20 games before the World Cup as per the old schedule. If everything had been on plan, we would have had the IPL (Indian Premier League) as well so we would have had a fair number of T20 games. We would always want to believe that we can win the tournament. That is how we felt in the 2019 World Cup, but you know how the game was. In half an hour, 40 minutes it can change.”
India last time won an ICC trophy during the ICC Champions Trophy 2013. Meanwhile, in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup history, India won the trophy in the inaugural edition, but they have never repeated that success again. Though the Indian team has performed consistently in the recent ICC tournaments, they mostly finished as the semi-finalists or runners-up.
On the other hand, while the coronavirus is still dominating the world, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Cricket Australia (CA) are currently not confident enough about the fate of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020.
