The Mumbai pacer then handed power-hitter Mitchell Marsh a golden duck in Delhi’s must-win encounter against the five-time champions. The seasoned campaigner of the Mumbai Paltan completed his three-wicket haul by removing an on-song Rovman Powell (43) in the 18th over.
Jasprit Bumrah’s three for 25 helped MI to restrict DC to 159-7 in the 20-over contest. In reply, MI chased down the target in 19.1 overs to help Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) qualify for the IPL 2022 playoffs.
It has been a tremendous journey for Jasprit Bumrah, who started off the IPL with Virat Kohli as his maiden wicket. Bowling alongside Lasith Malinga helped him initially and the Sri Lankan star has backed his strength and boosted his confidence.
Jasprit Bumrah Surpassed Harbhajan Singh To Become 2nd Highest Wicket Taker For Mumbai Indians Behind Lasith Malinga
Jasprit Bumrah, who was named the Player of the Match, scripted history by breaking two records in the ongoing IPL. The pacer surpassed legendary former spinner Harbhajan Singh (127 scalps for MI) to become the second-highest wicket for Mumbai Indians. The veteran Indian pacer has bagged 145 wickets in the IPL playing 120 games for the five-time champions.
He is only behind legendary pacer Sri Lankan Lasith Malinga, who picked up 195 wickets for MI in his iconic career. The senior pacer is also the first Indian bowler to take 15 wickets for the seventh consecutive season of the cash-rich league. The Indian speedster has scalped 15 wickets from 14 matches in IPL 2022 averaging 25.53 at an economy rate of 7.18. His career-best figures of 5/10 came this season against KKR. Mumbai Indians picked up only 8 points in the 10-team tournament this season and finished last in the league’s points table.
Delhi had their fate in their own hands but fatal mistakes on the field ultimately cost them a place in the playoffs. Rishabh Pant dropped a simple catch of Dewald Brevis and then did not review a caught behind appeal against Tim David. Shardul Thakur let go of a couple of tough chances as well. MI seems to have found a power-hitting finisher in Tim David. Dewald Brevis showed his prowess too.
