Jasprit Bumrah’s chances of playing in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) is looking as good as over. The Mumbai Indians pace spearhead is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to another injury.
Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action for nearly six months. He last played a competitive game in September last year during the home T20I series against South Africa before a back injury ruled him out. The right-arm pacer was on course to make his much-anticipated return last month.
He was named in the ODI squad for the series against Sri Lanka. However, his name was withdrawn from the squad just a day before the series got underway. He was then expected to return to action through the IPL but it looks highly impossible now.

Jasprit Bumrah to undergo surgery:
According to reports, Jasprit Bumrah’s back injury is more serious than it initially appeared. Consequently, he is more than likely to completely miss the entire season. According to India Today, he is set to undergo surgery to treat his back injury and would need more time to completely recover.
Missing Jasprit Bumrah will be a huge blow for Mumbai Indians who will be desperate to bounce back this year after finishing last in IPL 2022. Last year too, they had suffered a big injury blow with Jofra Archer unavailable for the whole season.

With Bumrah now all but out of IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians would be hoping that Archer spearheads the pace attack well in the absence of the India star.
