Joe Root has once again passed on the opportunity to enter the IPL auction and hasn’t registered for the league. He went unsold in IPL 2018 mega auction.

The fans’ wait to see Joe Root participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been extended by at least one more year as the England Test captain has decided against entering the mega auction. Joe Root, who recently finished his five-match assignment against Australia, had recently hinted at entering the auction for the first time in 4 years.

Joe Root Went Unsold In The IPL 2018 Mega Auction And Denies Entering IPL 2022 Mega Auctions

Joe Root is uncapped in IPL as he went unsold in the IPL 2018 mega auction. He hasn’t entered an IPL auction since and the chances of him playing in the T20 league are diminishing with every passing season. A number of England greats, including Alastair Cook, James Anderson, and Stuart Broad, didn’t play IPL. Though the likes of Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen earned huge amounts by taking part in the league.

The IPL 2022 mega auction is likely to take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. The list of players up for grabs will be out once the 2 new teams announce their 3 respective picks.

During the presser after another defeat on the tour, Joe Root denied entering the auction and said that he ”will keep sacrificing as much he can.” “There’s a lot that we need to do for this team, which deserves all of my energy. I’ll keep sacrificing as much as I can because I care so much about Test cricket in our country and trying to get us to where we want to be,” the England skipper said.

England was thumped 0-4 in the recently concluded Ashes series but Joe Root insisted that he wants to continue as the captain as he has the ‘appetite’ for it. As a result, he will not be entering the IPL 2022 auction.

Mark Wood And Mitchell Starc May Feature In IPL 2022

While Joe Root has confirmed that he won’t be part of the mega auction, there is still no clear word on Mark Wood and Australia’s Mitchell Starc. Mark Wood was part of Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2018 but hasn’t played the league since then. Mitchell Starc participated in IPL back in 2015. He was to make his comeback to the league in 2018 after being bought by Kolkata Knight Riders but was ruled out of the season due to an injury.

Mark Wood last played in the lucrative league back in 2018 for defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and withdrew from last year’s auction to spend time with his family. But, Mark Wood has already submitted his paperwork for the upcoming auction. Mark Wood reckoned the IPL provides a lot of learnings, and it will be good considering England has a really better one-day side.

Mitchell Starc is contemplating a return to the IPL for the first time since 2015 as he tries to juggle Australia’s Test commitments in the subcontinent with preparation for the T20 World Cup title defense at home in October. Speaking ahead of the fifth Ashes Test in Hobart, Mitchell Starc revealed he was seriously considering entering the IPL 2022 mega auction, which is scheduled for February.
Mitchell Starc has only played in two seasons of the IPL, back in 2014 and 2015 for Royal Challengers Bangalore, despite being one of the best and most valuable T20 bowlers in the world over the last seven years. He took 34 wickets in 27 matches for Royal Challengers at an economy rate of 7.16 and a strike rate of 17. Mark Wood has played only one match in the T20 league so far and it came for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2018.
