Joe Root has been selected as the “ English Cricketer of the Year” 2014-15 by the British Sports Journalists. This was announced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on May 18.

Root , who is just 24, scored 1135 runs in Tests with an average of almost 95. This included four innings with 149 or more runs. In addition to this, he also hit 3 ODI centuries.

Recently, Root was appointed the vice-captain of the England Test side. The others in the race were Moeen Ali, James Anderson and Gary Ballance.

Root has credited the former England coach Peter Moores for his rise in the International Cricket. Earlier, during the reign of Andy Flower, he was dropped from the English Test side but then he made a remarable return to the international side, scoring truck loads of runs in the past year or so.

On the other hand, Charlotte Edwards was awarded the “ English Women’s Cricketer of the Year” award for the second consecutive time . Saqib Mahmood, a right arm seamer for Lancashire won the “ England Development Cricketer of the Year”award. Luke Sugg won the “ Disability Cricketer of the Year” award.
