Interestingly, Bracewell replaced Phil Simmons of Windies, as a coach soon after the 2015 World Cup which was jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

“I took on the role as head coach, because I believed in the little guy getting a fair break and the cause of attaining test status appealed to my underdog psyche,” Bracewell was quoted as saying by AFP.

Under the tutelage of Bracewell, of late Ireland has achieved the most awaited process of earning a coveted Test status after world cricket governing body ICC has approved Afghanistan too as a Full Member during the recently concluded ICC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in June.

“That having been achieved, albeit by an unexpected turn of events, has left me looking for a new goal and challenge,” added Bracewell.

The former Kiwi off-spinner has enjoyed a stint of two-and-half-years with Ireland as a coach, which has further witnessed the players giving their best as a challenge in the recent past.

Under the tutelage of Bracewell, Ireland has made to the Twenty20 World Cup after leading the charts, in the process of the qualification round.

“I have therefore agreed with Cricket Ireland to finish up at the conclusion of my contract,” Bracewell further said.

The 59-year-old Auckland-born Bracewell has extended his stay in Ireland owing to the international commitments in the past, as he was staying with his wife, before reaching to the decision of discussion of late with the members of the Cricket Ireland over his resignation.

“Whilst my wife and I have immersed ourselves into Ireland and Irish culture we feel it is now time to return home to New Zealand and our families,” Bracewell added.

However, Bracewell will stay as an in charge in the Intercontinental Cup which is scheduled in August, before taking on Windies in September this year.

“The last two years have been a difficult period of transition and rebuilding in which John has tried to nurture inexperienced talent against the best teams in the world,” Holdsworth maintained.

Cricket Ireland Performance Director Richard Holdsworth revealed, Bracewell has fought hard to play a pivotal role to nurse the talent against the competitors across the globe.

Leaving his impact in the First Class cricket during his time, Bracewell registered 522 wickets in 149 matches at an average of 26.66. He has claimed 33 five wicket hauls.

Bracewell made his international debut in 1980 against Australia at Brisbane, before playing his last international match against Pakistan in ODIs at Sharjah in 1990.

Bracewell played 41 Tests in which he bagged 102 wickets at an average of 35.81. He had bagged four five-wicket hauls.
