John Hastings Clubs A Record Breaking Fifty To Keep WorcesterShire Afloat In The Natwest T20 Blast
John Hasting, The Australian fast bowler, entered the record books after smashing a 20 ball half – century batting against Warwickshire in the Natwest T20 Blast. It was fireworks straight away from ball one as Hastings, who opened the innings, began clubbing the Bears with total authority.
Here is the video of Hastings’ innings:
While his stay was short in terms of balls faced, his mindset was to create maximum impact on the opposition. He was successful in doing so in front of a strong 15, 113 crowd.
Along with JM Clarke, the burly Australian gave a blazing start to the Rapids, adding 75 in just 44 overs before the former departed. He fell shortly after the end of the powerplay but the damage in the early overs was done in smacking fashion.
After propelling the team past the 50 runs mark in just 3.5 overs, he looked all set to push his team past the 100 runs mark before the end of the 8th over. Colin de Grandhomme, in particular, was demolished as targeted him Hastings to club 30 runs in the 4th over before reaching his fifty in just 20 balls – a record on the Natwest T20 Blast platform.
Fortunately, for the Bears, Jeetan Patel was there to halt his free flowing show. After getting hit for a six off the very first delivery in the 7 over, the off spinner was able to remove him and provide a heave to relief to his team.
Hastings’ entertaining act, which was 5 sixes and 4 boundaries, was over but it laid the foundation for the Rapids to amass a challenging score of 190 /7 in front of the Bears.
In response, the Bears did a great job riding on the brilliance of DP Sibly (49 from 34 balls) and Grant Elliot (38 from 25 balls) but eventually fell 5 runs short of the target.
