Jos Buttler has been rested for the remaining 3 ODIs against Australia and Jonny Bairstow will be replacing him. No doubt that this may a tactical move as Buttler has been out of form for sometime now and is yet to contribute anything significant in the ongoing ODI series. But one cannot even deny that he has had heavy workload, after featuring in the series against New Zealand, folowed by the Ashes and now the ongoing ODI series against Australia.
On the other hand, Bairstow has made proper use of the limied oppurtunities that has come his way. Be it the match winning knock against New Zealand in the final ODI or his useful innings against Australia in the Ashes.
England’s coach Trevor Bayliss said that Butler’s performance in the ODI series has been poor because of the workload he was under in the Ashes. A break will be a good for him to come fresh for the Winter tours.
England are 2-0 down in the series and for them to win the series, they have to win each of the remaining 3 matches. England has been completely outplayed in every department. Hales has been poor with the bat and their batting order has been questioned. Their only ray of hope is Eoin Morgan, who has been excellent with the bat.
