Rajasthan Royals’ explosive batsman Jos Buttler has heaped praise on Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma. He feels Rohit is an ‘awesome’ player and makes batting look effortlessly easy. Rohit has been one of the finest white-ball players in recent years. While its hard to match his attacking prowess, the Indian batter’s timing is second to none.

Jos Buttler lauds the ‘awesome’ skill-set of Rohit Sharma

Buttler, who is well known for his swashbuckling knocks, lauded Rohit’s batsmanship while interacting with Royals’ Ish Sodhi on a Facebook live session. The 13th edition of the cash-rich tournament has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Rohit Sharma I think is an awesome player. Effortless. Quite a lot of Indian players have that awesome style,” said Buttler. “One of the things I have seen with Rohit is that if he gets in, he scores big runs and really affects the game. He must have scored 4-5 hundreds in the World Cup last year,” the 29-year-old added.

Rohit achieved a staggering feat last year by becoming the first batsman to notch up five hundreds in a single edition of the World Cup. The opener has a reputation of scoring daddy hundreds once he gets set at the crease. The elegant batter has been a treat to watch and the way he takes on the opposition is just phenomenal.

Jos Buttler opens up on Rohit Sharma’s strength against the short-ball

Buttler also praised Rohit for the manner in which he tackles the short deliveries. Unlike many sub-continental batters, the pull shot has been a strength for Rohit. He has amassed a lot many runs by whacking the short one out of the park.

“It’s not really the case now, but I think a few years ago people used to attack Indian players with the short ball but Rohit smashes them. Then you go fuller and he smashes them right down the ground. He has been fantastic for a long time and I just like the way he bats and the effortless nature in which he takes people down,” Buttler added.

Rohit suffered a calf injury during the T20I series against New Zealand. He was subsequently ruled out of the ODI and Test leg of the tour. He has recovered from the injury and was supposed to lead the defending champions Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020.
