Australian senior opening batsman, David Warner has been declared 100 per cent fit for the Ashes 2019 opener at the Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Australian head coach Justin Langer had revealed it to the media ahead of their Ashes campaign in the United Kingdom (UK). The southpaw had injured his thigh after being hit by Michael Neser.

After receiving a blow on his thigh on Monday, the 32-year-old Warner made his appearance in nets inside 24 hours. It also saw Langer expressing satisfaction on seeing Warner hitting the ball well in nets.

“He got a little bruise [from being] hit on the leg yesterday, he’s a bit stiff this morning but he will be 100 per cent ready to go,” Langer said on Warner’s recovery in a press conference.

The Ashes Test will commence from Thursday (August 1) when Tim Paine-led side will take on hosts led by Joe Root.

While briefing the media, Langer reiterated that Warner is keen to partake in the series opener.

“He’s fine. He would not miss this for anything in the world, I reckon. He can’t wait. He’s that excited [for an] an Ashes Test match,” Langer added.

Since March 2018, following the ball-tampering saga at Cape Town in South Africa, Warner will don the whites for the first time after a little over a 16-month gap.

Also, Steve Waugh is in the UK. He is serving as the mentor for Australia for the traditional series. Langer further stated that Waugh is in the change room so it won’t see anyone relaxing in between. He also added that Warner will come out to bat. Besides, Langer had made a tongue-in-cheek comment that ‘Tugga’ will expel him from the change room if it does not happen in the first place.

“Steve Waugh’s in the changing room so a few little bruises every now and again…there’s no way he’s not walking out to bat. Tugga would probably kick him out the door, I reckon. He’s fine,” Langer said.

Since 2011, Warner had played 74 Tests for Australia. He had amassed 6363 runs at an average of 48.2. Also, he had managed to slam 21 tons and 29 half-centuries in the multi-day format.
