In the last 18 months gone by, there have been quite a few positives for South Africa. Among them, the one aspect, that tops the list, has surely been the emergence of pace bowling sensation Kagiso Rabada. The right arm fast bowler has already emerged as South Africa’s pace spearhead in ODI’s and his numbers just back his talent and potential.
However, Rabada has been on the go throughout, without much of a break. Be it tests, ODI’s or T20I’s, Rabada has been the go-to man for the Proteas every time. Even in the absence of the enigmatic Dale Steyn, Rabada has shouldered the responsibility of leading the bowling attack. Considering this, South African coach Russell Domingo has expressed his concern over the young pacer’s workload.
“We need to consider the two fast bowlers, Dale and Rabada, they have played all three games and Kagiso, in particular, has played a lot of cricket over the last year so it might be an opportunity to give him a break because there is a lot of cricket to come in the next couple of months,” said Domingo ahead of the fourth ODI.
Domingo went on to praise the younger lot of players for showing character in the third ODI at Centurion. “Hash and AB’s records have been unbelievable so to win and chase down scores without those players is very pleasing and showing some of the younger guys are stepping into the breach,” Domingo mentioned. “It’s always important to have the next tier of players performing well.”
Expressing the need to have all rounder’s in the rank, Domingo added, “Allrounders are massively important to have and something we possibly haven’t had for the last two or three years.” “There are four in the mix at the moment with Wayne Parnell, Chris Morris, Adile and Dwaine Pretorius all there or thereabouts so it’s very pleasing to have that depth in our batting line-up. They have earned their spots based on good domestic performances.”
