It’s Always Difficult To Withdraw From A Competition Like The IPL: Kane Richardson

Kane Richardson, the Australian fast bowler said that his decision to withdraw from the 13th edition of IPL 2020 due to the birth of his first child was extremely tough for him. However, at the same time, but he could not risk missing the special moment with his wife Nyki Kitching.

Richardson was bought for INR 4 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the IPL auctions in December last year. But he will join his wife in Adelaide after serving his quarantine period in England, where Australia are going to play a series of three T20Is and as many ODIs from September 4.

Kane Richardson Feels Cricket Opportunities Will Come Around Again

Kane Richardson will be replaced by leg-spinner and compatriot Adam Zampa after news of his pullout was confirmed on August 31. Kane Richardson had previously played for Pune Warriors India in 2013, Rajasthan Royals in 2014 and Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2016.

“It’s always difficult to withdraw from a competition like the IPL, it’s the pinnacle domestic competition in the world so it wasn’t an easy decision, but when I sat down and thought about it, it was definitely the right one. I’m disappointed to miss the IPL but hopefully there are opportunities ahead for that.

“I don’t think I’d be able to live with missing the birth of my first child I can be home and support my wife as best I can, and hopefully those (cricket) opportunities come around again,” Richardson said from Southampton on Wednesday.

Kane Richardson, who is of 29 has featured in 14 IPL matches where he has taken 18 wickets averaging only 24.61. He has played for Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the past. The right-arm pacer Kane Richarson made his debut for Australia way back in 2013 but injuries prevented him to play more than 25 ODIs and 18 T20Is.

Kane Richardson Makes Way For Adam Zampa

Adam Zampa, who went unsold at the auction after setting his base price at Rs 1.5 crore, had previously represented Rising Pune Supergiants. Adam Zampa will join the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Moeen Ali, Washington Sundar, and Pawan Negi as RCB boast of a formidable spin attack to utilize properly the conditions in the UAE.

“We are disappointed to not have Kane’s skills with us this IPL as he certainly on top of his game. However, once we found out Kane and Nyki’s baby was due during the IPL, it’s an exciting time and we were fully supportive of Kane wanting to be at the birth of their first child,” said RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mike Hesson.

Adam Zampa has featured for defunct Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 and 2017 where he has taken 19 wickets in 11 matches averaging 14.63. He has the distinction of third best bowling figures in IPL history after Sohail Tanvir and Alzarri Joseph when he took six for 19 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
