Karnataka entered the finals of the Ranji Trophy 2014/2015 season by beating Mumbai by 112 runs at the Chinaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. It was a great performance by Karnataka as they entered the finals of this tournament for the second time in a row.
Karnataka were invited to bat first. In the first innings, Uthappa scored 68. Apart from Kunal Kapoor and Karun Nair nobody was able to play a good innings as Karnataka were bowled out for 202. For Mumbai Thakur picked 4 wickets. When Karnataka came out to bowl, Vinay Kumar bowled an inspiring spell on the first day as Mumbai were bowled out for paltry 44. Vinay Kumar picked 6 wickets giving away only 20 runs. At the end of day Karnataka were 10 for 2 in the second innings.
From the second day, onwards Karnataka dominated the game. In the second innings, Karnataka batsmen played some wonderful strokes as Mithun scored 89, R Samarth scoring 58 and Manish Pandey scoring 42 and also tail-enders contributing a lot to team total.
As a result, Karnataka gave Mumbai a big target of 445. In the second innings also Mumbai Thakur picked up 4 wickets again. On the second day Mumbai began off to a good start with openers giving 61 runs opening partnership.
When coming to third day Mumbai were at 144 for 1. But after that Karnataka picked up wickets at regular intervals reducing Mumbai to 277 to 6 at end of day 3. Today on the 4th day Karnataka bowled out Mumbai for 332 and reached the finals of Ranji Trophy 2014/2015.
It was an excellent comeback from the defending champions. Karnataka was bowled out for 202 and bowled brilliantly to skittle out Mumbai for 44 only.
This performance shows the skill of coming back in the game after being bowled out for a low total. They will face either Maharastra or Tamil Nadu in the finals.
