Karun Nair set to replace Shikhar Dhawan for third Test versus NZ

Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) has decided to call in Karnataka batsman Karun Nair as a replacement for Shikhar Dhawan who has suffered an injury against New Zealand in the Kolkata Test.

The injury means Dhawan is ruled out of the third Test against New Zealand which is set to begin on 8th September at Indore as he had a minor fracture in his left hand. The southpaw would likely miss the action for nearly two weeks as he was advised to be rested to recover from the aforementioned fracture.

He was hit twice with short balls in his hand while batting in the second innings of the Kolkata test as he had not fielded in the fourth innings and was taken to the hospital yesterday to have an X-Ray to understand the extent of the injury he had suffered earlier in the day.

The left-handed opener has not had a great score as he failed in both the innings and has suffered a huge setback in his pursuit to seal the place in the test team with the recent injury.

Karun Nair was called as a replacement for the injured Dhawan as he has been very impressive in the domestic circuit. The Karnataka batsman was called up for Sri Lanka series last season when Murali Vijay has suffered a hamstring injury.

The 24-year old is one of the leading run scorers in Ranji Trophy as he made more than 500 runs and will look to make the most of the opportunity if he gets a place in the starting XI.

However, Gautam Gambhir looks to have the better chance of breaking into the team considering the form he is in at the moment and would deserve the chance ahead of Nair. But it remains to be seen whom Virat Kohli will pick as a partner to Murali Vijay for the Indore test?!
