A number of students from controversial Indian Territory Kashmir has been expelled from University and forbidden with sedition charges as they got accused to cheer for Pakistan Cricket team during an international one-day match in Asia Cup. 66 students have been squeezed out from Swami Vivekananda Subharti University (SVSU) in the northern part of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.
Police are investing the students after a complaint was lodged against them for having a binge over Pakistan’s big win in Sunday’s Asia cup’s big match from the University administrations. An anonymous official of the University said that the problem arose when a part of students who were watching the match on television screen in the university’s community hall started caroling “Pakistan Zindabad. (Hail Pakistan)”.
They got suspended and escorted towards out of the campus as there might be a chance of violence of them with the other students after the match.
“The SVSU administrators brought through a written complaint against unknown people for yielding anti-national activities and creating ruckus on the university campus.” The Meerut police Chief Omkar Singh said. “We have filed a case and the investigation is on. If evidence gets established against the accused, legal procedure will be followed against them. The law will take its own course.” He cleared.
In the beginning, Police was planning to swell the charge of sedition on them but later the matter got dropped down as this serious charge can cost them for a lifetime. The leaders along with the Chief Minister of Kashmir showed protest against this decision. Omar Abdullah said on the twitter, “Sedition charges against those Kashmiri students will be objectionably ruthless punishment and it can ruin their whole life and it will estrange them. I believe that though the students did wrong but I’m sure that they were misguided but that doesn’t imply to get sedition charges on them.”
India and Pakistan once belong to one country, later they had been divided violently, and Kashmir had been distributed between these two countries. It has an adverse impact on the habitants. Though cricket is an obsession for Indians still Many Kashmiri does not even support Indian cricket team because they have been suffering from many national policies like routine arrests of their leaders, tons of disappearances since independence etc.
