Kevin Pietersen one of the hardest hitters of the cricket ball is well past his best said Steve Waugh in an interview in Melbourne.
Pietersen who has not played for England in over an year after a spat with the ECB but has shown his desire to play for the national team again by committing himself to county cricket in the country and skip IPL after Sunrisers Hyderabad gave him the nod to concentrate on his international career.
Waugh however felt that England had to move on from the past and that though KP may be devastating on his day, that England cricket should look beyond him and leave his likes even if it is painful. He added that short term sacrifices are to be done in order to reap long term benefits and said that KP with his form does not earn a place in the current England national squad.
Waugh also added that KP’s inclusion raises questions such as whether he is in the best 6 batsmen in England and whether his behavior and mentality towards the team change etc. Waugh also added that he may not fit into the current scheme of things for England and that he will not be able to transform his personality because he is too self –centered.
He also added that respect towards colleagues is very important and that KP has lost his place in the side due to reasons other than cricket.
