Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) IPL 2017 Schedule: Undeperformers Hope For Change In Fortunes Under Glenn Maxwell’s Leadership

If there was a title for the most under-performing team in the IPL, it would surely go to Kings XI Punjab. Not intending to demean the side, but any radical cricket fan would agree the Punjab franchise hasn’t been up to the mark ever since its inception. Their graph has maintained a consistency over the years but at the bottom half of the points table. With a new skipper and newly acquired bunch of talents, a change of fortune is expected.

KXIP went in with the biggest purse in the 2017 auction and picked impressive names. T. Natarajan, their costliest buy, seems like a natural fit into the XI, at least mid-way through the tournament if not in the initial stages. Eoin Morgan, Martin Guptill and Darren Sammy were some of the other interesting signings and a description of these in-form players is not required.

There is lot of emphasis over the fact the newly acquired players would bring a turnaround. But, ironically, the team has a great set of players. Put together David Miller, Hashim Amla, Shaun Marsh and Mohit Sharma and you get nothing less than a top-class T20 unit. However, strangely, they’ve managed to reach the knockouts only two times. Their best performance so far has been the runners-up honours they pocketed in the 2014 season.

But despite these lacklustre performances, the franchise has always maintained an optimistic approach making several great buys and structural changes. The latest one of those came just a few days ago as the leadership mantle was passed over to Glenn Maxwell, the unorthodox Australian all-rounder. The vibrant Punjab fans will be eagerly hoping the new skipper would bring in a turnaround.
