Kings XI Punjab franchise is looking to shift their base out of Mohali. Lack of support from local cricket association and disagreement with local authorities over the staging of games has come out as the main reason behind the franchise mulling to take this step.

However, it is learned that the BCCI has denied the request of KXIP and the franchise might be forced to play their home games in Mohali only,
“They had bid for Mohali when the first-ever auction took place for IPL teams. So technically, if they want to change their base now, they will have to pay the BCCI. They have made this request earlier too but the board did not agree,” a BCCI official told The Indian Express.
“The franchise has been facing many issues with the local police authorities. They have also cited lack of support from the Punjab Cricket Association. If they are allowed then chances are that their name will also change. It will be as per the new venue. The IPL GC will take a call on it”, he added.
Though the franchise is yet to ink of upon their new home round, it might be Dharamsala ground which may be their preferred choice as earlier as well, they have played games at the stadium in Himachal Pradesh. There are bright chances of Dharamsala becoming the franchise’s home ground if in case KXIP sticks to this stadium.

Meanwhile, the comeback franchise Rajasthan Royals has too asked for a change in home ground. The differences between the state association and BCCI is the reason behind the move. Rajasthan Cricket Association is a banned state association by BCCI as of now. Along with the change in name, the owners of the franchise are also looking to change their name in the next edition of IPL.
The final decision on the matter of both the franchises will be taken after an official meeting of BCCI with the owners of the team.
