ToggleKings XI Punjab (KXIP) batsman KL Rahul has written his name in Indian Premier League (IPL) history by scoring the fastest fifty in tournament’s history. The elegant right-hander was in full flow when he dispatched rusty-looking Delhi Daredevils (DD) bowlers all around the park in the first three overs at IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Sunday.
His innings was so fast that his batting partner Mayank Agarwal had barely gotten off the mark when the Bengaluru-based batter reached the milestone. At 2.5 overs, he also became the fastest player in IPL to score fifty so early in the innings.
Exciting batsman Rahul had joined up with the teammate Chris Gayle in a conversation in which he revealed that he did not overthink while playing his innings.
“I was in that zone which every batsman wants to be in. It was one such day and I was hitting the ball sweetly. So I just didn’t want to overthink. I was just waiting for the ball to leave the bowler’s hand and then react,” Rahul said.

The young Indian cricketer had also given some credit to Gayle for his splendid knock. Both Rahul and Gayle had already played together at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for numerous years prior to this season.
“I have realised over the years playing with you (with Gayle),and I have spoken to you over the last couple of years about how to pace the innings and you always keep telling about getting into good positions. That’s all I was trying to do and I’m really happy that it came off today,” Rahul told Gayle.
Gayle, Rahul Warn Royal Challengers ahead of the clash
Kings XI Punjab are now set to face Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday, in their second game of the season. The duo will head back to Chinnaswamy stadium to take on their former franchise.
“We have entertained people around the country over the years and going back home feels good, feels a bit emotional to be playing against RCB. But at the end of the day it is a game. We want to go there and play our best cricket and hopefully end up on the winning side again,” Rahul said about the upcoming clash.
Gayle also warned Bangalore team in style saying, “So Bangalore we are coming for you! RCB, we are coming, beware! KL Rahul – and he did entertain us today and he is going do so many more times.”
Despite changing sides this season, KL Rahul and Chris Gayle have plenty of supporters in Bangalore. The crowd will definitely cheer for them if they would come out to bat during the match.
