KL Rahul is quite new to international cricket but his recent performances have turned him into an important player for the Indian team. What is even more special about the youngster is the fact that he is scoring runs across all formats and in all conditions. The batting sensation has played under the leadership of MS Dhoni (ODI and T20 captain) as well as Virat Kohli (Test) in his short career so far, and praised both of them.
Explaining on the different approach taken by Dhoni and Kohli, Rahul said that while Dhoni is calm, Kohli is very energetic and passionate.
Rahul, who made his Test debut when Dhoni was still in charge of the Test team, said that the wicketkeeper-batsman is the best captain ever.
“With MS having so much experience behind him he understands what is best for the team. He is obviously the best captain that India or the world has ever seen there is no doubt about that. When he is in the dressing room there is a bit of calm, you know that the captain is doing most of the thinking, he will give you your roles & responsibilities and you just need to go and play them out,” India Today quoted Rahul as saying.
Well, no one can argue on that. The most successful skipper of the country, Dhoni took India to unprecedented heights in all the formats. He led India to a number of trophies including 2007 World T20 and the 2015 ICC World Cup and the number one rank in Tests.
Kohli, on his part, has started brightly and the team has reached the pinnacle of Test twice under him. The Delhi batsman has led the young team from the front, winning Test series against South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies with style.
“When it comes to Virat he is more energetic & has more passion. He wants the boys to be in the face of the players (opposition), be aggressive on the field and express themselves. We enjoy playing with both of them as leaders and both of them set great examples for rest of the boys in the team. They are great leaders and the team is in safe hands with both of them as leaders,” Rahul said.
Due to the regular openers getting the preference, Rahul has been getting limited chances but he is making sure to grab them with both the hands. In the recently concluded Test and the T20 series against West Indies, Rahul hogged the limelights with his impressive batting in both the formats. After scoring a ton in Tests, he gave a glimpse of his immense potential with his maiden T20I hundred in the US. But the batting sensation is not getting carried away with all the attention and said that he still has a long way to go.
“I think the media loves to brand players as soon as they get one or two good knocks. I think it is still early to be calling me a specialist in any of the formats. I am very new in international cricket & currently enjoying myself,” said Rahul.
