The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to send a notice to former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly after larvae of dengue mosquitos were found breeding at the Behala residence of Ganguly, an official said. Sourav’s elder brother who was also a former Ranji player has been diagnosed with dengue and is currently undergoing treatment at a city hospital.
“We have found larvae of dengue mosquitoes at Ganguly’s residence in Behala during our inspection on November 19 and had asked them to keep the place clean,” a member of KMC and the Mayor in Council of Health Atin Ghosh was quoted as saying by The Economic Times. However, it is being reported that even during today’s inspection, KMC officials found larvae of dengue mosquitos in the large compound. “So, as per rules, we will be sending a notice to them (Ganguly),” Ghosh said.
Meanwhile the former stylish Bengal batsman and the elder brother of the current President of CAB, Snehasish Ganguly has been admitted to a city hospital yesterday and has been kept under conservatory treatment for the disease, a senior official of the hospital confirmed.
“He was admitted to our hospital yesterday evening and his tests for dengue showed positive results,” he said.
Snehasish has been complaining of severe body ache with high fever and his platelet count which was around 1.68 lakh last night has gone down to 1.50 lakh today.
“However, his condition is better today,” the official added.
As per the state health department, there have been 35 dengue deaths in West Bengal since January, though the unofficial count is considered to be somewhere around 50.
Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly remains one of the greatest ever Indian captain to have graced the game. It was under his tenure that India started winning abroad regularly and also led the nation to the final of the 2003 World Cup only to be thrashed by the Aussies.
