On a day when Ravi Shastri was appointed Head Coach of Indian cricket team, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also announced that Rahul Dravid will be a batting consultant of Indian cricket team for the overseas Test tours whereas Zaheer Khan will be the bowling consultant.

Soon, though, another press release from BCCI just changed the previous statement as their role was moulded to the role of consultant on tour to tour basis. It is understandable that Dravid can’t be with the Indian team on every overseas tour because of his commitment to India A and U-19 side but what about Zaheer? Was there a need for BCCI to mould the statement and indirectly tell that they do not want these two in the role.

Kohli-Shastri Would Not Require Guidance Of Dravid and Zaheer: Sources 1

As per a report in Republicworld, it has been learned that now Shastri and Virat Kohli do not want Dravid and Zaheer in the role and in fact, there can be a case when these might not be called. The first glimpse of which we saw when BCCI didn’t even utter a word on the appointment of these two players on a day when they announced Bharat Arun as the bowling coach of the Indian cricket team. When asked about it, they dodged the question but Shastri said that he has had talks with these two.

If he had a talk with both the former Indian players, then why he has made a demand for appointment of Sachin Tendulkar as batting consultant for overseas tours and Kapil Dev as bowling consultant?

The roles have already been assigned to Dravid and Zaheer and if these two are also added in the India backroom staff, so will Indian team have two men in the batting department and three men in bowling department?

The series of events which have had happened in past few days clearly shows that Shastri was never taken into confidence before Dravid and Zaheer were given the job and now there will be a case when these might not be called in the Indian backroom staff as Shastri will again have his way and call his men in the team.
