Krishnappa Gowtham Smashes Many KPL Records After Outstanding All-Round Performances

On Friday (23rd August), the 30-year-old Krishnappa Gowtham provided incredible all-round performances in the Karnataka Premier League 2019 (KPL 2019). At first, the right-handed batsman scored 134*. Later, the off-spinner took eight wickets (8/15) to secure an outstanding victory for his team Bellary Tuskers. During that game, he created many records in KPL history.

It was the rain-interrupted game between Bellary Tuskers and Shivamogga Lions at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium (Bengaluru). After the Tuskers captain CM Gautam won the toss, he decided to bat first. Coming to bat at no.3 position, Krishnappa Gowtham played a master innings.

Krishnappa Gowtham managed many batting records

Gowtham completed his century in just 39 balls. It was the fastest century in KPL history. The previous record was 45-ball century by Mayank Agarwal in KPL 2016.

Gowtham carried his innings for further and scored 134 not out off just 56 balls. It was the highest individual score in KPL history. The previous record was 119* by Mayank Agarwal in the same game where he slammed the previous fastest KPL century.

Gowtham hit seven fours and 13 sixes in that innings. His 13 sixes is also a record number of sixes in a KPL innings history. The previous record was nine sixes by Mohammed Taha, which he achieved in KPL 2017.

This remarkable knock helped his team Tuskers to manage their highest KPL total as they scored 203/3 in 17 overs. It was also the highest total in this KPL season.

The off-spinner delivered the best bowling figures in KPL history

However, Krishnappa Gowtham didn’t stop with just his multiple batting records. Later, the off-spinner managed to achieve the best bowling figures in KPL history. In this game, he had the bowling figures of 4-0-15-8. The previous record was 3.2-0-11-6 by Nikin Jose which he achieved in the 2015 season.

Gowtham’s dominated bowling helped his team to bundle out Lions for just 133 runs (16.2 overs). In that incredible bowling performance, Gowtham managed twice on a hat-trick opportunity but just failed to achieve that. In fact, once he took wickets in three successive legitimate deliveries, but he missed the hat-trick due to delivering a wide on a hat-trick moment in the 12th over of that innings.

Finally, Tuskers won that game by 70 runs (VJD method).

Though all these performances are not going to be counted in T20 cricket history, it will always be the most memorable all-round performances in KPL history.
