Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has advised Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to use Kuldeep Yadav against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) because the spinner can be a trouble maker considering a slowish pitch. KKR and CSK will collide on Thursday (October 29) in Dubai. Although CSK has been knocked out of the playoffs, KKR is still alive in the race, standing at number fifth position in the points table.
To have the upper hand against the struggling CSK, Sehwag stated that Kamlesh Nagarkoti should be dropped, who is even not bowling his full four overs, while the chinaman should be included in the playing XI. He reasoned that as the pitches have become slowish, Kuldeep can be more effective.
“I fail to understand why Nagarkoti is in the team if he is not going to bowl his quota of 4 overs. It would be better to play Kuldeep instead. On a slow wicket, he will be a lot more dangerous for the batsman to play,” Sehwag said.
Virender Sehwag unsure whether KKR will qualify for playoffs:
Virender Sehwag worries that KKR might not be able to qualify for playoffs because of their batting woes. He said that only Shubman Gill and captain Eoin Morgan has stood with the team in tough situations while others have failed to finish the job.
“While KKR are contenders in the race for the playoffs, they just aren’t able to score runs. So far they have scored the least number of fifties in the tournament. If you leave out a few innings where other batsmen have hit runs, Morgan and Gill are the only batsman who have shown some consistency in scoring. The rest of the batsmen have failed.
Moreover, their two mainstays – Andre Russell and Sunil Narine – have failed to take the team forward. In such a situation, Virender Sehwag questions how KKR will reach the top.
“Who will end this run of droughts? If Andre Russell is fit to play, then he should be given one more chance. Sunil Narine has never been consistent with the bat, and hasn’t been an effective bowler this season as well,” he said.
After playing CSK, KKR will have the last league match against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday (November 1).
