It has been observed that in this World Cup, most of the guess work of a common fan is paying off well. As apprehended by many, Sri Lanka have registered a very comfortable victory over England by 9 wickets. In this process of victory, Sri Lanka’s prime batsman Kumar Sangakkara has successfully raced to his 23rd One-Day International (ODI) century in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 today at Wellington.
While reaching this milestone, he went past the star batsmen like Sourav Ganguly, Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle, who are having 22 hundreds written against their name. However, he is behind only Sachin Tendulkar (49), Ricky Ponting (30) and Sanath Jayasuriya (28) and keeping in view the fact that this being his last ODI event, he will stay behind Sachin who is far ahead with 49 centuries.
Another notable highlight of Sangakkara’s 23rd century remains that today he has registered his fastest ODI hundred — off a mere 70 balls. Also this proved to be back to back ODI hundreds as he had scored a hundred in his previous ODI match as well (in the ICC World Cup encounter against Bangladesh at Melbourne Cricket Ground three days back), thus proving his worth for his team.
Of the seven men, however, Sangakkara takes far more innings (16.391) per hundred, while Kohli needs the least (6.591).
