Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara, on Thursday, confirmed his participation in the Hong Kong T20 Blitz. The left-handed batsman has joined Galaxy Gladiators Lantau to become the second biggest signing for the tournament after Shahid Afridi, Pakistan all-rounder, signed with Kowloon Cantons earlier this week.
“I am delighted to be associated with the Galaxy Gladiators Lantau and I look forward to playing with the young and upcoming talent of Hong Kong as well as catching up with all the Amazing cricket fans,” said Sangakkara.
Scott McKechnie, the coach of Galaxy Gladiators, was happy with Sangakkara’s signing as he said, “We’re delighted to have Kumar representing the Galaxy Gladiators in 2017’s Hong Kong T20 Blitz; his skill and experience will be invaluable to our young, talented squad. We feel this signing aptly reflects the steep growth curve of both our franchise and this tournament, as well as reinforcing Cricket Hong Kongs growing global presence.”
The five-day tournament will be played from March 8 to 12 in Hong Kong. HKI United, Kowloon Cantons and Hung Hom JD Jaguars, Galaxy Gladiators Lantau and City Kaitak are the five teams participating in the tournament.
In past, the league has seen many international played like Michael Clarke, Ryan Campbell and Jamie Atkinson. Interestingly, Saurabh Passi, former India U-19 player also played the T20 tournament last year.
