ToggleThe Sri Lanka batting legend, Kumar Sangakkara congratulated Smriti Mandhana on her joint-fastest fifty during the Women’s Cricket Super League 2018 on Sunday.
The left-hand cricketer from India enrolled her name in the cricket book in a six-over game of KIA. Smriti Mandhana became the joint-fastest to a half-century.
This feat came in the rain-shortened game between Western Storm and Loughborough.
Mandhana reached the milestone in 18 balls to equal the record of New Zealand’s Sophie Devine. Likewise, Sophie Devine set the record in 2015 against India in Bengaluru.
In a similar fashion, Yuvraj Singh is also the joint-fastest fifty scorer in the T20 format of the game. He shares this feat with Chris Gayle, as they achieve the mark in just 12 balls.
The left-hand cricketer from India is the first woman to appear in England’s premier women’s domestic T20 tournament.
Mandhana scored an unbeaten knock of 52 from just 19 deliveries.
Smriti Mandhana helped her team to reach a formidable total of 85 for the loss of two wickets. Her swashbuckling knock included five fours and four sixes. Coincidentally, Sophie witnessed the knock from Mandhana’s bat, as she was the part of Loughborough side. Sophie scored 46 not out off 21 balls, despite this, she remained unsuccessful to save her team from suffering an 18-run defeat.
Smriti Mandhana is famous for her prolific attitude. The 22-year old has featured in 42 T20Is for India and has amassed a run tally of 857 runs. Moreover, she has five half-centuries in this very format. The southpaw has also played ODIs, scoring 1464 runs at an average of 37.53, including three hundred and 11 fifties.
