Former Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara has extolled Sourav Ganguly’s leadership skills at great length, backing him for taking ICC chairman’s role. The governing body is currently finding the apt candidate for the post after Shashank Manohar stepped down earlier this month.

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who is currently the BCCI president, has been backed by several former cricketers. After Graeme Smith openly supported him, Kumar Sangakkara also thinks Ganguly is best suited for the job.

Kumar Sangakkara, who played 404 ODIs, 134 Tests and 56 T20Is, claims that Sourav Ganguly to have the astute cricket brain. He adds that the former Indian skipper has been the part of the game himself and knows what is best for the interest of the game.

“I think Sourav definitely can make that change. Quite a big fan of Dada not just because of his stature as a cricketer but I think he has a very astute cricket brain. He has the best interests of the game at heart and that should not change just because you are the BCCI president or the ECB or SLC or any other cricket board when you are at the ICC.

Apart from praising Sourav Ganguly’s skill, Sangakkara has also noted that the former shares a great bond with all the players around the world. This will help him to successfully lead the governing body.

Most importantly, the foundation of this game is children, fans, and spectators around the world. I think Sourav can do that very, very well. I have seen his work even before he took over as the BCCI president, even before administration and coaching, and how he has built relationships with players around the world, his standing in the MCC cricket committee. I have no doubt that Sourav will be a very, very suitable candidate to do just that.”

Last year in October, Ganguly took over the BCCI president’s role and it has been close to 10 months since then.
