Southern Express captain Jehan Mubarak won the toss and elected to bowl first in their final qualification game against Lahore Lions in Raipur. Lahore Lions captain Mohammad Hafeez though said that he would have batted first regardless so he was happy with going in to the bat first.
After a slow start and losing 3 wickets, Lahore Lions were in a bit of a predicament at the start of their innings and it seemed like they’re heading for yet another batting collapse. But captain Mohammad Hafeez and Saad Nasim stabilized the innings and they made it to 89-3 in their first 15 overs.
However Hafeez and Nasim decided to attack in the last 5 overs and though Nasim eventually got out but Hafeez and Umar Akmal carried on the attack and managed to score another 75 atej loss of 3 wickets in their final 5 overs making it a total of 164-6 in their allotted 20 overs.
The Southern Express started briskly but lost 3 quick wickets to be reduced to 36-3 in the first 6 overs. But small partnership between Mubarak and Perera saw them crawl their way back but eventually losing 5 more wickets in less than 18 runs to make it 98-8.
