Lalchand Rajput applies for India’s head coach’s post

Former Indian cricketer Lalchand Rajput has applied for the post of team India’s head coach.
Rajput thus joins incumbent chief selector Sandeep Patil and former team India director Ravi Shastri , as a candidate to formally express interest in what is perhaps the most sought-after job in world cricket.
“I have already forwarded my application this morning. I have all the necessary credentials to be India coach,” he said after applying for the post on Tuesday.
“I have not sent any presentation. Now the only the desire is to convey my intention. Once I am called for the interview, the demonstration and presentation will be shown to the BCCI officials,” he added.
Rajput,who has played only two Tests and four ODIs’ for India, tasted good success as a coach. He had a successful stints with the Under-19 team. He was appointed cricket manager before India’s successful campaign at the ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa and held the position till the tour of Australia in 2007-08. He was also the coach of the Mumbai Indians in the inaugural IPL.
When asked about his chances after pointing out that heavyweights like Ravi Shastri and chief selector Sandeep Patil have also applied for the same post, Rajput said, “It is always good to have healthy competition.”
It’s also learnt that Pravin Amre, Vikram Rathore, Venkatesh Prasad, Robin Singh and Balwinder Sandhu are expected to submit their applications.
