A little-known Jasprit Bumrah rose to fame on his IPL debut in 2013 when he dismissed Virat Kohli. In less than three years, he made his international debut and is now the leader of India’s pace attack across formats. Bumrah’s addition to the Test squad gave Indian pacers much needed pace and there has been no looking back for the pace attack.

Since Bumrah spent his early years at Mumbai Indians with Lasith Malinga –  he continues to be part of the team – many think that the Sri Lankan legend would have played a key role in his success, especially in teaching him yorkers. However, this isn’t the case.

For the first time, Bumrah has revealed that he didn’t learn anything (on the field) from Malinga, not even the yorkers.  “Many people believe that he taught me the yorker, but that’s not true. He did not teach me anything on the field. The things I learnt from him are about the mind. How to handle different situations. How to not get angry. How to make a plan for a batsman,” Bumrah was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

The right-arm pacer will soon be back in action as he is set to take the field against Sri Lanka in the opening T20I of the series on Sunday. He is also a part of the ODI squad for the three ODIs against Australia.

Bumrah, who was set to play his first Test at home in October, was a part of the squad for the South Africa Tests but was ruled out due to stress fracture. He sat out for three months before joining the India camp during West Indies ODIs.

The team management seemed to be confident with his fitness and Bumrah was recalled in the limited-overs team for the home series.

It remains to be seen if he is selected in the white-ball squad for the New Zealand tour. India play five T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests on the tour of New Zealand. It is not confirmed whether will be part of the squad for all the matches. Although he will surely play the two Tests.
