As usual, a lot of changes have taken place in the Reliance ICC ODI Player Rankings after 23 thrilling pool stage matches in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 currently under progress in Australia and New Zealand.
Kumar Sangakkara has now become the leading run-getter so far in this prime cricketing event with 268 runs, and this is apparently clearly visible in the latest Reliance ICC Player Rankings for ODI batsmen. The 37 years old left-handed batsman has now gathered 849 rating points, equivalent to South Africa’s Hashim Amla. Due to this development, Virat Kohli has fallen down to the No.4 position in the rankings.
The current batting table is led by South Africa captain AB de Villiers, who is ahead of Sangakkara and Amla by 49 rating points. However, De Villiers, with 217 runs, is standing at sixth spot in the list of leading run-getters in the tournament to date. It is interesting to note that he is just two rating points short of becoming only the 11th batsman to break the 900-point barrier since the introduction of the current ODI player rankings mechanism.
West Indies’ sensational rock star Chris Gayle – with 258 runs – is running second on the list of top run-scorers for which he has been rewarded with an upgradation of five places. This, in turn, has put him in 52nd place along with Afghanistan’s Samiullah Shenwari, who has been elevated by 12 places.
New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum and South Africa’s David Miller are the biggest beneficiaries in the latest rankings, which were released on Monday.
McCullum has got a jump of 10 places to 18th spot now, following his 207 runs in four matches to date whereas Miller has gained up 14 places to 23rd as his three innings have resulted in 180 runs to date.
