After the players’ draft was for the inaugural edition of Twenty20 Global League has availed the several overseas players, the situation has become further dicey following the signings of the fresh players, who had already made their availability for the Bangladesh Premier League.
Owing to the current scenario, the well-established two cricket boards in the form of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and CSA management could found themselves at the loggerheads as the professional leagues are taking place in chorus between November and December later this year.
“[Players must] be available, subject to the provisions of any NOC, to participate in the full league edition period and will report to the team, unless otherwise agreed to in writing, on the commencement date of the league edition period,” the letter of CSA General Manager from Corrie van Zyl was quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Interestingly, on the very first day of the two-day league lead-up draft which is being supervised and eventually organized by Cricket South Africa.
Moreover, CSA in its statement revealed the players who have been provided a window at the fresh platform would not make themselves available for the other leagues taking place simultaneously in the professional T20 leg.
“[Players should not], directly or indirectly, enter into another agreement and/or arrangement subsequent to entering this agreement which would adversely affect his ability to perform his obligations under this Agreement or the Cricketer’s Playing Contract,” van Zyl added.
The chief executive for CSA Haroon Lorgat in his straightforward response revealed they are not looking to create ruckus out of it, as the players have shown willingness to participate in the maiden draft.
On the other side, the Chief Executive Officer of BCB Nizamuddin Chowdhury reiterated that they were conscious about such occurrence as he further urged to contact the administration of the CSA.
“We were aware that such an issue may come up since both tournaments are scheduled around the same time. We will get in touch with Cricket South Africa soon,” Chowdhury asserted.
Expressing the deep concern over the latest issue, Chowdhury has further summoned the different ventures for the complete list of players to look into the matter.
“We have asked the BPL franchises for the list of cricketers. If the players say that they don’t know how their names went up in that [CSA’s draft] list,” Chowdhury maintained.
However, owing to the binding of the contract at the first instance following the signing of the players on the ground Chowdhury believes the BCB has a strong case in hand.
“I think that’s a valid ground for the BPL franchises who have already signed them,” Chowdhury concluded.
Big players like Chris Gayle (Rangpur Riders) and Shahid Afridi (Dhaka Dynamites) have had already signed for BPL franchises, but of late explosive Gayle has expressed to play for CSA’s league, as he has been named as a marquee player for the Cape Town Knight Riders.
