Would like to see Rahul Dravid as India’s coach – Harbhajan Singh

Strongly voicing his opinion about the next coach of team India, veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh has said that batting great Rahul Dravid is the best choice to coach the team. Currently, India are without a head coach and with team director Ravi Shastri’s contract expiring post the 2016 World T20, the BCCI is on the lookout for a head coach.

At a promotion event in Mumbai, Harbhajan was quick to add that Dravid should be made India’s coach as he was the best candidate around. Backing his former teammate and pacer, the off-spinner also said that Zaheer Khan had the potential to excel as India’s bowling coach. Singh pointed out that Zaheer’s experience and skills would be extremely handy if he was made India’s bowling coach.

“If you ask me, then I would like to see Rahul Dravid as India coach and Zaheer Khan as our bowling coach. I believe they can make a difference with their experience. But this is my opinion. There are people who will decide on this matter,” Harbhajan said at an event in Mumbai.

Singh is not the first person to back Dravid as the next coach of team India. Former Indian batsman and legend Sunil Gavaskar too recently suggested Dravid’s name as the next Indian coach. Along with Gavaskar, former Australian skipper and coach of the Mumbai Indians, Ricky Ponting also shared a similar opinion as Gavaskar and backed Dravid.

When quizzed about other potential candidates, Harbhajan said that even former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori would do a good job. “Yes, Vettori can also be a good choice. I believe between these three, anyone could be a good choice,” said Harbhajan.
