As per sources close to the BCCI Selection Committee, there could be a surprise selection for India’s limited overs tour of Australia. Punjab pacer Brainder Sran’s name is being considered as a surprise selection for the upcoming tour. Sran is a left arm pacer from Punjab and has played just one game in the IPL. Sran is a genuinely quick bowler with a swift action and on the bouncy wickets of Australia, he could be handy indeed.
Sran is also being considered in order to add more variety to the team. For the limited-overs series against South Africa, S. Aravind was tried, but he couldn’t do anything noteworthy. “There could be a surprise pick in Sran. A lot of people are excited about him and being a left-arm pacer helps his cause. If they had to blood him in, this tour won’t be a bad one,” a source was quoted saying.
“The team management feels the need to have some variation in the pace unit which, they believe, may help restrict the flow of runs. A left-arm seamer offers natural variations with the ball and is tougher to score off than regular right-armers,” the source further added, stressing on the need for some variety. If Sran is indeed selected, then it could be a very proactive move by the selectors.
