India v Australia 2017: Virat Kohli Accuses Australia Of Cheating In What Can Be Biggest Scandal Since Sydney 2008
Virat Kohli expressed clear unhappiness over opposition skipper Steve Smith act of looking at the pavilion before going for referrals in the just concluded 2nd Test at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. The Indian skipper was quite frank in letting his frustration out in the post-match press conference. Kohli felt that signalling towards the dressing room for information isn’t a genuine thing to do.
“I saw that two times happening when I was batting out there,” Kohli said.
The Indian skipper added that he noticed this happen on all three days of the match and promptly made the umpires aware of the scenes. Throughout the Test, Kohli has had a go at Australian players on several occasions exchanging heated words forcing the umpires to normalise the situation.
“I pointed it out to the umpires and twice I have seen their players looking up there for information and that’s why I was adamant. When he turned back that’s why the umpires knew what was going on, we told the umpires they had been doing that for the last three days and that had to stop.
“There are lines you don’t cross on the cricket field (inaudible) is different, but I won’t mention the word but it falls into that bracket. I would never do something like that on the field.” Virat Kohli in a post-match press conference.
When asked if Kohli wants to convey that the actions of the Australians were cheating, Kohli answered in a straightforward manner, stating,
“I didn’t say that. You did.”
While was quite vocal in the post-match presser, he would be relieved hugely after winning the second test by a comprehensive 75 runs margin. Ravichandran Ashwin, who had been underwhelming to his standards in the past few innings, rose up to the occasion with a six-wicket haul to underpin the Australian in just one session on Day 4.
