The 2016 edition of the IPL got off in some style as the latest entrants in the tournament; the Rising Pune Supergiants came to the party against hosts Mumbai Indians. On a track assisting the seamers to a certain extent, Rohit Sharma elected to bat first and that didn’t pay off for the hosts. When asked about his views on the toss, Pune skipper MS Dhoni said that he would have bowled first.
Ishant Sharma was on the money straight away as he struck on his very first delivery trapping Rohit Sharma plumb in front. Ishant bowled superbly in his first spell as he was accurate and made the batsmen work hard for every run. The lanky pacer then cleaned up Lendl Simmons with an absolute peach of a delivery. Ishant was definitely on fire and that was evident with his bowling performance.
The other bowlers too responded well as Mitchell Marsh and rookie spinner Murugan Ashwin were among the wickets. At one point it seemed that the Mumbai Indians would not even get to the 100 mark. However, the hosts had a savior in Harbhajan Singh, who played an outstanding unbeaten knock of 45 to get Mumbai to a competitive total.
In the last over of Mumbai’s innings, Ishant Sharma received some belting from Harbhajan Singh as he went for 17 runs. Harbhajan hit two fours and a maximum off Ishant to ensure that the Mumbai Indians got to a respectable total. After bowling a horrible final over, a livid Ishant Sharma was seen cursing and abusing and below is the video of that incident.
