IPL 2020: KKR's Lockie Ferguson Admitted Being Nervous Before 1st Match 1

Lockie Ferguson, pacer of Kolkata Knight Riders admitted that he was nervous ahead of his first game of this season of Indian Premier League (IPL) against SunRisers Hyderabad. Both teams had scored 163 runs in their allotted 20 overs which resulted in the Super Over.

Lockie Ferguson proved to be a crucial player by bagging the Man of the Match award for his outstanding bowling performance for KKR during the team’s Super Over win over SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Lockie Ferguson Was Pretty Nervous As He Had Not Played In A While

Lockie Ferguson returned with figures of 3/15 in his quota of 4 overs. He picked up crucial wickets of Kane Williamson, Priyam Garg and Manish Pandey. He then bowled the Super Over and picked up two wickets of David Warner and Abdul Samad in the first three deliveries as he restricted SRH to only 2 runs.

KKR then comfortably chased the target without losing wickets to register a win. KKR now has 10 points in 9 matches with 5 wins and 4 losses.

Well, 2/2 is the joint lowest Super Over score in IPL which was scored by KXIP too against DC earlier in IPL 2020.

“I have been training and feel quite comfortable with bowing but obviously, I have not played in a while so I was pretty nervous. But fortunately, we have got such a great team and everyone backs each other and there is a lot of trust amongst each other,” Ferguson told Shubman Gill in a video posted by iplt20.com.

New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson is known for generating raw pace. He debuted in 2016 for Black Caps and has played a total of 37 ODIs and 8 T20Is besides a solitary test match. He has picked up 69 ODI wickets and 14 T20I wickets averaging 25.8 and 15.8 respectively.

Lockie Ferguson Tried To Keep It Simple By Backing Yorkers And Slower Balls

Lockie Ferguson was drafted into the KKR setup in 2019 after representing Rising Pune Supergiants in 2017 and played only five games for KKR where he picked up only 2 wickets.  He now has 8 wickets in 10 IPL matches.

Lockie Ferguson was a member of New Zealand squad for 2019 World Cup, and he was named in the Team of the Tournament, and ICC named him as the rising star of squad. He made his Test debut in 2019 after making ODI debut in 2016 and T20I debut in 2017.

When Gill asked Ferguson about his plans during the death overs, the bowler said: “I tried to keep it pretty simple what I was doing throughout the game. I was backing my yorkers and slower balls and fortunately, I got wickets which is always nice at that stage.”

Shubman Gill top-scored with 36 while Eoin Morgan scored 34 as KKR scored 163/5. T Natarajan was the pick of the bowlers with 2/40 but was expensive. In reply, SRH were reeling at 82/4 in the 12th over, but David Warner who batted at No. 4 scored an unbeaten 47 to tie the match.

KKR will next play against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on October 21.
