To the surprise of all, Indian Captain Virat Kohli decided to change team combination. Virat chooses to bring in an extra batsman in place of a bowler and went ahead with a 7-4 combination. Jayant Yadav was replaced by Karun Nair. Murali Vijay got injured before the game and he was replaced by Fellow state colleague Abhinav Mukund. Australian captain Steve Smith decided to go with an unchanged combination.
Mitchell Starc delivered an early break for Kangaroos as he trapped Mukund in front of the stumps. Abhinav Mukund, making his comeback into team perished soon without scoring. He stayed at the crease for just 8 deliveries. KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara gave some respite to India. Cheteshwar Pujara was at his usually best game with a gritty knock to heal the early wicket. On another hand, KL Rahul was rotating strike and kept scorecard moving.
Meanwhile, in the first session, KL Rahul lived a charmed life as he was dropped by Peter Handscomb off Steve O’keefe for what should have been a regular catch at the international level.
