The Karnataka Cricket Association (KSCA) has introduced SubAir subsurface aeration and vacuum-powered drainage system which will now make a washed out game at M. Chinnaswamy a thing of the past.
This technology will prevent any sort of water logging in the playing area. The new technology installed by the state board, at the coast of INR 4.25 crore, will allow the match to resume faster than before as this upgraded technique have an the ability to drain the water 36 time fast than the old techniques used, “It is a matter of pride that KSCA is showing the world how to make use of technology in cricket infrastructure,” said Anil Kumar, MD of Great Sports Infra, the marketing arm of the SubAir, USA.
“The SubAir system automatically kicks into action the minute it starts raining, thereby not allowing any build up of water on the outfield. Water begins to get sucked out at the rate of over 10,000 litres a minute from the moment it begins to rain. The suction system gets activated through signals from the remote sensors embedded in the field,” Anil Kumar added.
This technology will not just protect game being washed out but will also make the playing conditions better. The new technology will cost KSCA Rs. 7 Lakh/year. The same technology was used in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and is used in golf as well.
Soon or later, other state associations might also introduce the same technology after getting reports from KSCA.
