M.S. Dhoni plans to play the 2019 World Cup in England!

M.S. Dhoni, the India’s most successful captain till now, has now made his intentions clear of leading the country till 2019 World Cup. Sources close to Dhoni and Jharkhand cricket association has indicated that Dhoni has not yet given up hopes of playing till 2019 World Cup, a thing which he has made clear during  a press conference post- India’s defeat against West Indies in the semi-final of 2016 T20 World Cup.

Despite an average show from Indian cricket team in the recently concluded ODI series aginst new Zealand, Dhoni is in no mood to back off and has now set his eyes on 2019 World Cup to be played in England in the year 2019. However, the 2017 champions trophy will be  a litmus test for him as the Dhoni will be under double pressure there i.e. to retain the cup and also to show why deserves to captain the team for World Cup as well.  Surely, the champ n’s trophy will write Dhi future script or else he may himself relinquish his place to make way for mother youngster. but this is a hard truth that e do not have nay back up prepared for him. Though KL Raul can also keep wickets but is not a permanent member there. Also, there is no finisher recent in India who ca replace Dhoni.

Surely, the Champions Trophy 2017 will write the script of Dhoni’s future  and in case Indian team struggles there, he may himself relinquish his place to make way for other youngsters. but this is a hard truth that we do not have any backup prepared for him. Though we have few wicketkeepers who can somehow fill that spot but there is no finisher who can replace him.

Dhoni has also received support from many cricketers, especially Ashish Nehra who himself hopes to make a comeback again as he said “Dhoni would be 38 by the time the 2019 World Cup is staged, but these days age isn’t a factor. Look at Pakistani players like Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq. They are still playing international cricket past the age of 40. And as far as Dhoni is concerned, he is fit enough to go on till 2019,” Nehra told TOI.

“I don’t see any reason why Dhoni should retire from international cricket. After the New Zealand ODI series, he will get more than two months to rest and come back fresh for the ODIs against England. Dhoni will be fitter in the series against England than what you saw in the series against the Kiwis,” he added. Ravi Shastri the former director of Indian cricket also batted for Virat Kohli and supported midseason to play 2019 world cup Dhoni is on par with greats like Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, and Sachin Tendulkar. He is a big player and has it in him to play till the 2019 World Cup. He is the kind of player who won’t be around if he is not able to deliver for India. He has played cricket on his own terms and will continue to do so,” Shastri added.

Earlier, Ravi Shastri, the former director of Indian cricket also batted for M.S. Dhoni as he said “Dhoni is on par with greats like Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, and Sachin Tendulkar. He is a big player and has it in him to play till the 2019 World Cup. He is the kind of player who won’t be around if he is not able to deliver for India. He has played cricket on his own terms and will continue to do so”.

Vikram Rathore, the former Indian selector cited the example of Ashish Nehra to support Dhoni by saying,”Dhoni can definitely play on if he wants to. I don’t see any issue with his fitness. He is actually looking fitter than what I have seen him earlier. If Nehra can come back at the age of 37, Dhoni can also do it. Remember, age is just a number,”.

M.S. Dhoni retired from Test cricket in the year 2014 and is now only plays limited overs cricket. He led team India to the semi-final stage of T20 World Cup 2016.
