Yesterday, again the Indian team rode on a brilliant innings from the Virat Kohli to post a thumping win over New Zealand in the third ODI of the series. Kohli scored brilliant 154* runs to take the team past the winning total and take a one up a lead over New Zealand. However, it would be rude to neglect Dhoni’s contribution as yesterday, he promoted himself to bat up the order. He analyzed the situation of the game and decided to take the stage himself to keep the team going. The promotion paid off as in the end as the captain and vice-captain played a brilliant innings to put team India on the winning track.
Though Dhoni was dismissed when the destination was still few steps away but he had already done his work before being dismissed. Dhoni’s wicket might have put some pressure on Kohli but instead of getting buried under it, he rebounded strongly and went on to fire runs to take the team to a superb win in the end.
The Delhi dasher was bestowed with Man of the Match for his great effort and once again invited comparison with one of the great players of Indian cricket. Dhoni again encountered the same question of being Kohli one of the greatest opener and finishers or not. once again he was asked about Virat Kohli being the best the best top order player and best finished in the team to which he replied “MS Dhoni in PC: Cricket fraternity compares batsmen. But they do not consider how the game has changed. Even Test cricket has changed.
Never short of words M.S. Dhoni played this one smartly and said “Cricket fraternity compares batsmen. But they do not consider how the game has changed. Even Test cricket has changed,
“How do you compare Sunil Gavaskar with any other top order batsmen? The game has changed so much”.
Though Dhoni was able to play it safe this time but time and again this team will follow Dhoni for long like a ghost.
