M.S. Dhoni Will Be Sachin Tendulkar To Virat Kohli: VVS Laxman 1

The former Indian batsman V.V.S. Laxman thinks that M.S. Dhoni’s decision to relinquish the captaincy has come at the right time and it couldn’t have come at any other time.

Along with that he also thinks that though Dhoni has resigned from the post of the captain, but he still has a lot to offer as a player, in both the formats of the game he plays.

Writing for a cricket website, Laxman commented on the timing of the resignation asserting that former Indian skipper left the post in typical Dhoni’s style without any fuss.

He further added that Dhoni knew the time is now ripe for him in order to let him make a way for Virat Kohli to build his own team for the 2019 World Cup.

Laxman further wrote that it was a surprising decision to appoint M.S. Dhoni as skipper for the T20 World Cup 2007 but the way Dhoni managed the team with his sound knowledge was quite brilliant. Indian team went onto to grab the win the maiden T20 World Cup under him.

Laxman further added that his decision to come at number 5 ahead of the in-form batsman Yuvraj Singh in 2011 WC final showed that he put the team’s cause to the fore as Dhoni thought he is more equipped than Yuvraj Singh to face Muttiah Muralitharan. His decision to promote self in the batting order paid the result as he played an innings of 91* and steered the team to a world cup victory along with Gautam Gambhir.

Laxman believes that it was after Champions Trophy 2013 win when Dhoni’s charisma started dwindling and it reduced manifolds after the semi-final loss against Australia in World Cup 2015.

Laxman described Dhoni as most selfless cricketers who never tried to drag his career as we saw Dhoni retire from Test cricket in 2014 when he knew that Virat Kohli is ready to lead the team and this time again, he quit the captaincy after knowing that Virat is ready to lead the team in all formats.

Virat Kohli should be up for a challenge against England from January 15 for three ODI and three T20I.
