Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) may soon join its counterpart from Vidarbha, Tripura and Rajasthan in the list of BCCI members who have accepted the Lodha Panel recommendations. The MCA members discussed the issue during a managing committee meeting on last Sunday (December 2) and unanimously agreed to adopt the reforms. The final call, however, will be taken at a special general body meeting (SGM) later this month.

“The resolution is to agree to implement and support the Lodha Committee reforms along with any modifications that the court might pass,”Abhay Apte, MCA president, told ESPNcricinfo.

In October last year, the Vidarbha Cricket Association became the first member body to accept the reforms. Tripura and Rajasthan followed suit soon, and according to the news outlet, Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) is also in line to accept the reforms.

The Supreme Court has looked hell-bent to make BCCI and its member bodies accept the reforms.  The apex court had already ordered the Indian cricket body to draft a new constitution by including the recommendations by December last year. It had also asked the member bodies to do the same. Moreover, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators have also made it clear that funds would not be disbursed to the member bodies until and unless they adopt the new constitution.

Former MCA president and BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke along with president Anurag Thakur was sacked by the court in January for failing to get the board to accept the Lodha committee’s recommendations

However, the officials are yet to follow the instructions and have challenged the decision by filing pleas.

Meanwhile, Apte said that MCA is now facing financial issues and is keen to overcome it.

“Our financial condition is not very good and we would like to overcome that,” he said. “The members have come forward to support the association’s cause. We can’t continue with this status quo, We want to devote time to cricket.”
