Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Tuesday played his last match as the captain of an Indian side in India A vs England practice match at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
During the course of the game, England bowling coach and former Pakistan legendary spinner Saqlain Mushtaq spoke to StarSports presenter Jatin Sapru, and was in all praise for the Indian captain. Talking about MSD’s illustrious career as the skipper, Mushtaq said Dhoni is country’s one of the best captain’s ever and his personal hero too.
Seemed to have found a good impression of his leadership skills over the years, Mushtaq added MS Dhoni is a great leader and has done wonderfully well to put India on top of the chart during his tenure as a captain. Calling him one of his favourites captain ever, Saqlain admitted of running out of words to describe what MS Dhoni, both as a player and a skipper, means to him.
“To be honest I have three favorite captains. after Imran Khan & Wasim Akram comes Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He’s a great lad, great leader, he’s a legend, he’s my hero. My words are actually small to express my feeling for him. He’s a great man.”
The match which wasn’t scheduled to be telecast earlier on was made available for the fans across the country, given MS Dhoni’s last match as the skipper in a blue jersey. However, during the toss, MS Dhoni said he will continue to lead Jharkhand and his IPL side, as he thanked his fans and all those who supported him throughout his career post that.
Much to everyone’s amusement, the crowd came in numbers to watch MS Dhoni for one last time as the captain. Dhoni did not disappoint his fans too as he hammered 23 runs off the last over of Chris Woakes and remained unbeaten until the end on 68 off 40 balls.
Talking about the crowd presented over in the ground, Saqlain said the atmosphere reminds him of India vs Pakistan matches in past and that he feels he is sitting in Pakistan’s dressing and not England one.
“Atmosphere is absolutely wonderful over here. It doesn’t feel like I am sitting in the English dressing room, it feels like I am sitting in the Pakistani dressing room.”
England, however, beat India A by three wickets as Sam Billings was the top scorer for the visitors with 93 runs.
